Yan’s Arrival

// June 15th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Germany, Missions

Last Saturday I went to Frankfurt, with ps. Sérgio, to pick reinforcements for the work up – Yan Miguelote. He is a young man from Comunidade Shamah (a church in Niterói), that was with us in some of our Missionary Weeks and was also a part of Ribeirinhos Project. He was supposed to come together with me, but we heard from God that he should postpone it, but now he is finally here! We also took the time to go around Frankfurt a little and also visit a Brazilian pastor that work in the city. We could bless them and also be blessed by them, who have a ministry at Germany’s entrance! God is faithful!

This week he’ll start in the same German Course I’m taking. Speaking about it, today I got the result from the test from Module 2 and, thank God, I’m on to Module 3!

This Sunday we had with us one of the directors of AVC, a Missions Agency, that was responsible for the trip of The Heavenly Man to Brazil, the same trip that ps. Sérgio took part in, earlier this year. He was sharing with us about the necessity of the reevangelisation of Europe by the Church in Latin America – specially Germany by Brazilians! It was one more confirmation and a ‘cheering up’ for the Germany Project! Glory to God!

This weekend was really busy!

Levi was attending the Open Heart Conference, this year in Scotland, so I had to lead worship. Fabián helped me. He’s a young guy from Chile, and a blessing for us! It was great, because it had been a long time since I’d lead worship – I’ve been playing bass every Sunday – and I was starting to miss it!

Ps. Sérgio was also in a Conference, nearby Frankfurt, and couldn’t be at the service on Sunday. So I had to preach as well! I talked about ‘How is Our Heart’ (maybe later I’ll put the notes here). Thank God I was able to speak more freely my Spanished flowed more freely and I felt that the church received it more.

On Friday we had our Hauskreis (home group) again and I took a shot at speaking German, for a game I made before the message. I’m still not able to preach in German, but God willing it won’t take long! Last night we were with some of the guys from church and we played Tabu, a game were you have to explain the meaning of the words, so that your group can guess it (really cool) – and, believe it or not, I played it in German – and my team won! =)

Thank God He has enabled us to do more and more each day for His work!

Please pray for Yan, who’ll be travelling next week to be here with us for 1 year!

God bless!

Holland and Prayer Letter 2

// May 18th, 2009 // 5 Comments » // Germany, Missions, Prayer Letters

Hey everyone!

It’s been a while since I came here, but it was for a good cause… my parents spent a weekend here with us so I wanted to wait to post some photos with them! ;)

Also, I’ve sent some people another Prayer Letter. If you didn’t get it, you can download it here: Prayer Letter Germany 02. If you want it in Portuguese, you can get it here: Boletim Informativo Alemanha 02.

Finally, here are some photos from our trip to Holland:

Köln

// April 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Germany, Missions

Yesterday I went to Köln (Cologne) to spend some time with some friends. We went to a music store and walked around the city a little. I also took the opportunity to take some photos of the Cathedral, full of images.

This week ps. Sérgio and sister Margarida arrive from Brazil – now I’ll start getting to know them for real. Be praying so that everything will go all right on their trip.

During this time in Brazil they got to know Yan – and talked about the possibility of him coming here in June! He was going to come with me, but we postponed it – but the desire of having him here is still very much alive. And it won’t take long! Be praying for that too!

German Classes

This week I finish the first module (I still have to take the test) and next week I’ll start module 2. Thank God I’m already able to understand some things. In some conversations I can understand almost everything! I’ve challenged myself to share a word at the Hauskreis (cell group at home) in German until the end of the year! It seems a little difficult, ut I know that God can make be able to do it.

Talking about it…

The cell meetings are great. This week I shared (in Portuguese, translated) once more – I had already spoken in another opportunity. Sometimes Levi or someone else shares. We always have dinner (or something smaller) together and it has been a great opportunity to strenghten friendships and also practice German. I’m also about to start a cell group in English in Holland, like I had talked about in the 1st Prayer Letter.

Every Thursday we have bible study at church and I also have helped teaching – in Spanish! It’s another challenge – and another victory ahead of us!

God bless!

Registering in the City

// April 17th, 2009 // No Comments » // Germany, Missions

Hey everyone!

I’m just stopping by to tell you that this week I’ve registered myself in the city, and have started the Visa process, and God willing I’ll get a long one so that I don’t need to worry about it, at least for a few months – please pray for that!

I also bought a SIM Card for my Cell – I have already a contact number in Germany. I won’t put it here, but I’ll give everyone in the next Prayer Letter, ok?

The German course is going awesome, thanks to God! I’m already able to understand a few things and have started going around by myself in the city (the cellphone chip I bought speaking in German – cool, huh?) and, God willing, I’ll be able to speka soon enough, so I can start making more friends. ;)

Also…

I’ve just the news at G1 (globo.com – Brazilian website) talking about the heavy rains at Pará (Northern Brazil). Alter do Chão, one of the places we visited during the Ribeirinhos Project, is underwater because some rivers are overflowing, and it seems that many families are suffering because of that. Let’s pray so that this situation won’t escalate and that everything will go well with those communities.

God bless!

Prayer Letter 01 – Restarting

// April 7th, 2009 // No Comments » // Germany, Missions, Prayer Letters

Hey everyone!

As you may have known (if you didn’t, why don’t you sign up here —>) I’ve arrived in Germany and have been involved with some projects.

Like I did when I was in Timor, I’ll write Prayer Letters periodically… and here’s the first one: Prayer Letter Germany 01. If you prefer in Portuguese, here it is: Boletim Informativo Alemanha 01

May God bless you each and every day!

German Classes

// March 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Germany, Missions

Last Thursday I started having German classes and I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Actually, the classes have been a review of what I learned in the German course I had in Brazil, but I know I’ll start seeing new subjects pretty soon . =)

On Friday evening I participated in a home Bible Study group with some young adults from the church. Some Brazilians, some Germans… and they did an “interview” with me so I could introduce myself… so we ended up doing it in English, but it won’t always be like that… German is the goal, right?

Last Saturday we spent tidying up the room, cleaning and putting together some furniture we were given. Now I have a wardrobe, a desk and a bed – I’m felling more at home now! ;)

Last Sunday I helped with worship at chuch, playing guitar and it was cool. We played some songs in Spanish and some in German – it will be great to learn the language! We’re still going to practice more, but I think that for a first time it was good.

As soon as April starts I’ll begin sending Prayer Letters, like I did when I was in Timor… in the meantime… you can always come here. =)

God Bless!

A little bit more of the Ribeirinhos Project + Germany

// March 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Germany, Missions

Just stopping by to say I’ve uploaded some photos of the Ribeirinhos Project, in Santarém, Pará. We also made a video that I’ll upload to YouTube and post it here anytime soon. Meanwhile, you can see the photos, clicking here.

In time…

I’ve arrived in Aachen and am almost settled at ps. Sérgio and family’s house. Last Sunday I went to the Spanish-German service and it was very cool. I’m already making friends and getting to know a little more of the local culture. On Thursday I’ll start having German classes (they didn’t start on Monday, like I had said)… and I’m super excited!

From Frankfurt, Germany

// March 20th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Germany, Missions

After an awesome trip, I arrived in Frankfurt at 2:30pm (10:30 – Brazil time) and am already at the hotel. I’ll stary here until Sunday, when I’ll meet with pr. Sérgio and his wife, sister Margarida, to go to Aachen, where I’ll get to know the church I’ll be working and also the city I’ll live for the next few months.

On Monday I’ll start a German language course and I know it’ll be a blessing, and also help the missionary work here a lot!

Another good thing is the weather here… about 5º Celsius (43º Fahrenheit) – I love cold weather!

As soon as I have more news, I’ll post here!

God bless! (still haven’t found out how to say this in English, but I’ll learn!)
